SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year the Prattville Rotary Club sponsors two scholarships for senior high school students in the Autauga County/Prattville area. These scholarships are available to any senior high school student in public or private school that is recommended by their school counselor and completes the application process.

The two scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded in the name of Horace Powell and Frank Lamar, who are both founding members of the Prattville Rotary Club.

Criteria for application may vary slightly each year based on the guidelines set forth by the Board of Directors. Students will normally be asked to write an essay on a topic provided in advance. Essays are scored by a panel of rotary club judges with the top two essays being notified of advancement. The selected seniors present their papers at a normal rotary club meeting and are awarded their scholarships at the year-end banquet in June.

Notification of scholarship application procedures and topics are forwarded to school counselors in February of each year. The scholarships applications are due in mid-April and will be awarded in June. Students interested in this scholarship should meet with their school counselor for more information.
