A Rotary International Group Study Exchange team from Rotary District 3291 in India is touring Rotary District 6880, which includes Prattville, this month. The GSE team arrived in Mobile, AL, on April 28th after 40 hours in-flight. During their month long visit in District 6880, the group will make stops and visit with Rotarians in Dothan, Eufaula, Auburn, Opelika, Montgomery, Prattville, Demopolis and Mobile. The group also attended the district conference in Montgomery on May 13-15.
This group is comprised of 5 members. Shankar Ramalingam is a Rotary Club member in India. As such, he is their team leader. Members of the contingent are staying in the homes of other Rotary Club members in the area while touring Montgomery and Prattville. Shankar works in the seafood industry and is interested in seeing seafood processing units and markets to gain an understanding of state-of-the-art systems being utilized in the United States.
Satarupa Dutta is a social worker who focuses on women and child welfare programs and interventions. She is interested in developing a deeper understanding of the social welfare system in the U.S. Satarupa's native language is Bengali. She also speaks English and Hindi.
Mohit Lata is a hotelier whose primary responsibility is in the area of administration and finance planning. He is most interested in learning about the hospitality service industry in our country. He would also like to learn more about our culture while sharing his own. Mohit's native language is Hindi. He also speaks English and Bengali.
Binota Roy is a lawyer. She is most interested in visiting law offices and gaining more knowledge about American court proceedings and litigation in this country. Binota speaks 4 languages.
Manish Hathiramani's field of occupation is equity trading and technical analysis. He is most interested in exchanging theories in the field of trading in equities and commodities with his peers in this country. His native language is Sindhi and he also speaks English and Hindi.
They honored Mayor Bill Gillespie and the City of Prattville with a visit on May 17, 2011. These individuals were very sharp, professional and very intelligent. They asked questions about taxes, businesses, and recreation. Based on the answers given, Shankar made comparisons of his city in India and the City of Prattville.
Following their visit with Mayor Gillespie, the group gave a cultural presentation to members of the Prattville Rotary Club, with guests from the Prattville/Millbrook Sunrise Rotary Club in attendance. Jeremy Arthur, President of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, and International Project Chairman for the Prattville Rotary Club, arranged their visit to Prattville. "It was our honor and privilege to host the Rotary GSE team in Prattville. We are continually seeking to build partnerships and understanding between international cultures. Hosting this GSE team from India gave us an opportunity to showcase our community through this great cultural and vocational exchange," said Arthur.
Also, during their visit to Prattville, the GSE team visited the Prattaugan Museum, did a walking tour of downtown Prattville, including Heritage Park, stopped at the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, and experienced the wonderful views from hole #1 on the Judge Course at the RTJ Trail at Capitol Hill.
The group continues their tour of Alabama Rotary District 6880 following their stay in Prattville as they travel to Demopolis.
