The Prattville Rotary Club is happy to announce their participation in an education grant from The Malone Family Foundation of Alabama. This grant will enable all third grade students in Rotary District 6880 to have their own personal copy of a Webster’s dictionary.
In the River Region alone, more than 5,000 dictionaries will be distributed to 3rd graders. Prattville Rotary Club will distribute dictionaries to all 3rd grade public and private school students in Autauga County on Monday, November 15, 2010. Members will personally hand deliver the dictionaries to students and give a short presentation of the Rotary 4 Way Test.
Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Research indicates that third grade is the appropriate time for beginning use of a dictionary. Also, data shows that most third graders in Alabama do not have personal dictionaries. Without access to a dictionary, learning both inside and outside the classroom is limited.
Rotary District 6880 covers 31 counties in the southern part of the state and includes approximately 23,000 third graders attending approximately 400 elementary schools. Rotary Club members from across the district began this distribution in October and the distribution will be concluded before the Holiday Season.
